3:55 AM. Louisville in January. 1.37 miles through the neighborhood before the drive in.
The shift starts at six. The alarm didn’t need to go off — the body’s already on the schedule. Up before the sun, moving before thinking. The cold air does more to wake you up than any coffee could. 30-something degrees and dark streets and the sound of your own breathing.
1.37 miles. 25 minutes. Back home, shower, drive to work. Nobody at the office knows you already walked a mile and a half before they hit snooze the first time.
