Overnight shift at the NOC. Almost five hours on your feet but only a mile and a half of actual movement. The rest is screens, tickets, and the hum of networking equipment that never sleeps.

You get up because sitting for eight hours straight in front of a terminal will kill you faster than the problems on the screen. Walk the building. Check the vending machine. Step outside and look at the sky for thirty seconds. Come back, sit down, troubleshoot another circuit.

The tracker doesn’t know the difference between exercise and restlessness. Tonight it was both.
