Back-to-back evening shifts. Got up from the desk around 8:20 and walked the mile loop again. Slightly faster than last night β€” eighteen minutes instead of twenty-one β€” which probably means nothing except I had less on my mind.

Or maybe more on my mind and I was walking through it faster. Hard to tell. The NOC does that to you. You spend twelve hours staring at dashboards and the difference between “calm” and “numb” gets blurry.

August third. A Wednesday. The kind of day that doesn’t have a personality. You clock in, you watch the network, you walk when your back hurts, you clock out. A mile is a mile is a mile.

Consistency isn’t exciting. It’s not supposed to be.
